Services for Faculty

Writing Centre Introductions

We welcome requests from faculty who would like to have a Writing Centre staff member make a short in-class presentation about the Writing Centre. We introduce students to our services and resources, show them how to access our spaces in-person and online, and answer any questions which they might have about visiting the Writing Centre.

Customized Workshops

Our professional staff welcome requests from faculty and staff who are interested in having a writing specialist customize a workshop for their class or program. Our pedagogical approach is guided by the principles of genre theory and writing in the disciplines. We conceptualize student writing within its social context and aim to foster rhetorical self-awareness, explicating the communicative norms which are implicit across scholarly situations and academic genres. Our workshops are available both digitally and in-person.

Possible topics of embedded writing support include, but are not limited to:

  • Academic citation
  • Writing with academic integrity
  • Writing within a discipline (with special attention to audience, purpose, and context)
  • Writing specific genres (e.g., research articles, review articles, literature reviews, abstracts, etc.)
  • Contextualizing and communicating a research contribution
  • Writing research proposals
  • Writing an argument (in the essay genre)
  • Writing as a process (e.g., how to paragraph, how to quote, how to paraphrase, etc.)
  • Writing across media (e.g., podcasts, poster presentations, etc.)
  • Co-authorship and group writing
  • Giving and receiving peer feedback
  • Writing in creative genres and research-creational writing
