How does it work?
Arduino is an open-source microcontroller that is easy to use. The Arduino controller can be connected to a power source and wired into circuits that include motors, sensors, buttons and led lights etc. The Arduino can connect to laptops to run programs that execute tasks like turning things on and off.
What can I make?
Because of its easy learning curve, the Arduino kit is great for prototyping interactive circuits like a mini synthesizer or a sensor triggered pet food dispenser.
Getting started:
- Plug the Ardino into your laptop
- Download Arduino IDE
- Pick an example program
- Upload it into the Arduino

Raspberry Pi
How does it work?
Raspberry Pi is a microcomputer that you can carry in your pocket. Just like any computer you can load an operating system and connect it to monitors, keyboards, web cameras and other accessories via USB ports.
What can I make?
Raspberry Pi’s low cost and tiny size make it ideal for monitoring or capturing time lapse photos of plants, easily portable retro gaming, security monitoring, music production and much more.
Fun fact in 2016 it was used for a space mission on ISS (International Space Station), where it ran programs made by students. (It can also be used to code different languages)

You can borrow webcams from the library.
Getting Started:
- Power up by connecting the Pi via the micro usb cable that plugs into the wall. Some kits have a plug with an on/off button on the cable.
- Connect the Pi to the monitor and keyboard
- Download and Install the Raspberry Pi imager, connect the SD card, select it and install the desired OS.
