About Course Resource Lists

Course Resource Lists allows instructors to gather course materials from the library’s collection, such as articles, books, or streaming media; and content from websites like YouTube. Course Resource Lists can be accessed directly by logging in with a MacEwan username and password or activated in mêskanâs for student access.

Features of Course Resource Lists include:

  • Build your list by adding any item with a link
  • Organize the list by week, module, or topic
  • Set priority for each item, comment, or make recommendations
  • Request digitization for print book chapters, DVDs, or CDs for online access
  • Copy your Course Resource Lists and items between your courses, or from one semester to the next
  • Allow students to quickly see which items are essential, make personal notes, indicate completed tasks, and manage their time more effectively

Getting Started

Get started and create your own Course Resource Lists; or have library staff create one for you. Library staff will locate the materials, check copyright, and make the list available in your mêskanâs course.

Deadlines

Requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis; however, turnaround time (typically three to five days) will be affected by the number of requests received and may be considerably longer if copyright permission is required or if items are not currently available in the Library. Faculty are encouraged to submit requests at least three weeks before the start of classes.

Digitization Request

Faculty can make a digitization request for print book chapters, DVDs, or CDs directly from Course Resource Lists - see step-by-step instructions

Not using Course Resource Lists? You can still make a digitization request for print and audiovisual materials for student online access in mêskanâs by filling out the below forms:

Requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Allow three weeks for processing and copyright assessment, potentially longer if copyright exceeds fair dealing or educational exceptions and permission is needed.

Questions about your digitization requests can be sent to reserves@macewan.ca

Additional Information

Textbook Collection

The Library purchases at least one copy of most required print course texts, excluding novels, loose-leaf texts, and workbooks.

To request that the library purchase a textbook that falls outside of these parameters, please email: collections@macewan.ca.

Note: The Library cannot guarantee that students will have access to the textbooks they need when they need them. The Library's textbook collection was developed as a supplementary support collection and is not intended as a replacement for the purchase of required textbooks.

Placing Items on Physical Reserve in the Library

Faculty can place high demand print books (including personal copies), DVDs, CDs, and other materials on Reserve by filling out the Physical Reserve Item form.

Due to their high demand, Reserve items have a much shorter loan period, ranging from two hours to seven days determined by the faculty member. Students can pick up and borrow items placed on Reserve by showing their Student ID card at the Library Services Desk.

If you want to place a personal copy on Reserve or have questions about placing items on Physical Reserve in the Library, email: reserves@macewan.ca.

Deadlines

Allow three weeks to ensure items are available for the first day of classes.

Course Readings/Course Resource Lists - Library Help

Library staff can help instructors add materials to a course. Simply send us your course outline (syllabus) and we’ll do the rest to ensure your students have access to the reading and viewing materials they need. Library staff can:

  • Insert a permanent link to full-text articles, ebooks, and streaming media available electronically from the Library collection
  • Identify whether material can be digitized (e.g. an excerpt from a book or stream a DVD)
  • Review and clear copyright
  • Add materials to your mêskanâs course
  • Add materials to print reserve
  • If requested, discuss options for using or creating open education resources

Requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis; however, turnaround time (typically three to five days) will be affected by the number of requests received and may be considerably longer if copyright permission is required or if items are not currently available in the Library. Faculty are encouraged to submit requests at least three weeks before the start of classes. Please submit your request below and Library staff will follow up. Questions?
